For those of you who have been long-time readers, you might have noticed a slight change around Board Game Quest today. For first-time readers, you can probably skip this whole article and get to the good stuff. 🙂
For the rest, we’ve given our logo a much-needed refresh. Back when I started Board Game Quest, I just had a friend draw me up a logo because I needed something. It’s fun and has been around since the start, but I don’t think it really represents who we are as a group. (There are dozens of us!)
So, 13+ years later, we’ve given our logo a new look. Apologies to fans of the old logo, but it was its time has come and gone.
The main points we wanted to address in the new look were:
• We do written game reviews
• We cover mainly board games
• We cover the full range of game types and complexity
• We are a fun, wacky group of diverse individuals from every walk of life
• Our name is Board Game Quest
For the new logo, I reached out to a number of illustrators and graphic designers in the board game space, and we got great options from some really creative people!
In the end, it was the logo from David at Ink Voltage that really won us over.
This was how he described his concept:
The logo has a square shape, which directly brings to mind board game boxes and playing boards, blending the concepts of adventure and fun. The design’s core is a lively maze that works as a puzzle and forms the brand’s letters. This maze symbolizes the excitement, quest, and adventure of gaming, with playful lines and colors to reflect a fun, casual tone. The variety in the letters and the color palette represents the different personalities on the team, all connected by a shared love for games.
In addition to the logo, David worked up a new rating’s image (look for it on new reviews!) and even a mascot as a call back to the old logo. Say hello to Nyar, who you may see popping up around the site (and who team members are already requesting a plushie of).
Welcome to the new look of BGQ. And if you are in need of creative services, Ink Voltage does some amazing work.

Love the color scheme Tony. Good job updating your branding.
Thanks Andy!
