Viva Java DiceDice rolling games are a fast growing genre right now. Between old favorites like Zombie Dice and Martian Dice to up-in-coming titles like Dungeon Roll, gamers have a lot of options to choose from to get their dice rolling fix in. The newest entry into this up-and-coming genre is VivaJava: The Coffee Game: The Dice Game (apparently they were also going for the most colons in a game title). Thematically based on the well received VivaJava: The Coffee Game, VivaJava Dice will have players taking on roles in the VivaJava CoffeeCo. The must scour the globe for the best beans to keep the company on top while keeping themselves one step ahead of the rest of the other players. While VivaJava: Dice Game may share a theme and some mechanics with its big brother, no knowledge of the original VivaJava game is required. This is a stand-alone, lighter game than VivaJava that plays in about a third of the time.

From the Kickstarter Page:

Viva Java Dice ComponentsAlso as in VivaJava, VivaJava Dice has players making the crucial decision between blending beans and research, but with a quick, new twist. Players must now use the dice in their pool to Blend – using the beans to create a best-seller for quick points, then deciding whether to press their luck in subsequent rounds for bigger points but fewer dice as the blends degrade – or to Research, which involves using their valuable beans to gain an ever-changing variety of dice-manipulating abilities, new ways to score, and paths that lead to aiding a competitor for a later payoff or hindering that competitor for immediate gratification. VivaJava Dice also offers a unique system of cooperative dice-rolling that can help you rise to the top, but at the price of someone else riding your coattails.

If you like the press-your-luck genre at dice games, then VivaJava Dice is definitely worth a look. I haven’t been able to play the VivaJava: The Coffee Game yet (hint to Dice Hate Me Games if you’re reading), but it looks very well done. I do really like these dice rolling games as nice filler options for on the go or when you are just looking for something lighter to play. The game seems to be very well put together and I like the look of the prototype components. If you are interested in learning more about ViviJava Dice, then I’d suggest heading over to their kickstarter page. A pledge of $30 will get you a copy of the game and any applicable stretch goals. You have until July 21st to decide before the campaign closes.

    • Glad you like the articles Chris. We enjoy doing them too.
To answer your question, we really just spend a lot of time looking through Kickstarter games and pull out ones that seem interesting. Occasionally people send us suggestions, but we only choose ones that we like and would pledge ourselves (or are already backing).
