Incredible-Expeditions-boxTo say that deck-building games are popular right now would probably be somewhat of an understatement. There are more deck builders coming to the market right now than anyone could have ever predicted when Dominion first appeared on our tabletops. However, recently I came across one on Kickstarter that looks really interesting:  Incredible Expeditions: Quest for Atlantis. Originally the campaign got my attention for its great steampunk visuals (yes, I’m a sucker for steampunk). But after reviewing more about the game play, Incredible Expeditions seems like a really solid game.

From the Kickstarter page:

Incredible-ExpeditionsLead a steampunk expedition to explore fantastic places and face otherworldly horrors in a deck building strategy game for 1-5 players.
Incredible Expeditions combines deck-building mechanics with exploration and resource management to create a game that ends gloriously, whether your Expedition succeeds or goes down in flames. There are no victory points here. Help or hinder other players by Acquiring and playing cards on them. Create new challenges with different Locations laid in one of a multitude of different patterns each time you play.

The game requires some early planning and resource management to help you succeed later in the game. This sounds like a great way to tie the theme to the mechanics. I also like that the game can be played in multiple modes:  competitive, solo and cooperative.  This should help up the replay value immensely. If you enjoy planning, deck building, exploration and overcoming challenges, then be sure to give Incredible Expeditions a look,; it could be right up your alley.

The Kickstarter campaign has already met its funding goal and is well on its way to unlocking some of the stretch goals (7 met so far). A $50 pledge will get you both a copy of the game and all digital and physical stretch rewards. The game is scheduled to appear in backers’ hands in March 2014 and you have until Monday, September 16 to become a backer. Be sure to head over there today if it seems like something you’d be interested in.
