Compounded Board Game on Kickstarter

CompoundedI wanted to let everyone know about my newest find on the crowd-funding site, Kickstarter. I visit Kickstarter every now and then to see if there are any new or interesting board games coming down the pipeline.

Well I’ve had my eye on a game called Compounded for a while and have finally decided to jump in and be a backer. In Compounded, players take on the roles of lab managers, where they must compete with each other to complete the most chemical compounds, before other players beat them to the discovery…or there is an explosion. Compounded uses a number of different game mechanics, such as: Worker Placement, Trading and Pressing-Your-Luck.

While I haven’t gotten a chance to demo the game yet, it appears as if designer Darrell Louder put a lot of thought into this game. The mechanics seem sound and the components look high quality. I’m pretty excited to get this game on the table. The game is projected to ship in August of 2013.

I’d also like to note that this Kickstarter is avoiding one of the newest trends that I absolutely hate. Many Kickstarters have “stretch goals”, where things are added to the game as the total funding increases. Well the newest trend is to offer the base game at one price, and then allow you to get the game, plus any stretch goals at a higher price, sometimes to the tune of double the game price. I abhor that practice and have passed on several game Kickstarters because of it. I was happy to support Compounded, in part because they are giving everyone the stretch goals, and I want to support people for doing things the right way.

If you want to check out Compounded or join the other 1,200+ backers, you can do so here: Compounded: Better Gaming Through Chemistry
