Board Game Quest Awards 2013We play a lot of board games here at Board Game Quest HQ. Unfortunately we don’t have the time to review each one. There are many great games that make their way across our table that don’t get the praise they deserve. Well we figured it was high time for that to change. So we are happy to announce the First Annual Board Game Quest Game Awards.

Our editorial staff has gone through the multitude of games released in 2013 and chosen, in our opinion, some of the best. It was far from an easy decision and there were many games we considered. In the end, we were able to narrow it down to a list of nominees. The only requirement was the game had to be published in 2013 and be, for the most part, readily available in some form. A little leeway was also given to games that came out near the end or the beginning of the year.

We’ve narrowed down the nomination categories to 10 and have allowed 6 nominees in each category (except Game of the Year which has 8). From among these nominations our editorial staff will choose a winner. However, since we wouldn’t be doing this without you, our faithful readers, we want to give you a vote as well.

Below is a poll for each of the 10 categories and you can cast your vote for which games you think should win. Our readers here will collectively have one vote, and along with each member of our editorial staff, the winner will be chosen. The voting will be open until May 14th, 2014 and the winners will be announced shortly thereafter.

Congratulations to all the nominees and may the best game win!

The winners have been announced!

Note: Whichever game wins Game of the Year will automatically be removed from any of the above categories except Best Production Values, Best iOS Game and Most Innovative Game. Our reasoning is if a game wins Game of the Year, chances are it should win any of the other categories by default. That just seemed a bit redundant. If a game wins Game of the Year, you know is really good.

  1. Those are some great nominees! There seems to be an issue with Game of the Year poll. You have Bora Bora listed in the poll but do not show its icon. You show Glass Road instead.

    • Oops, thanks for catching that. The gremlins must have been monkeying with our polls. I’ve also punched our editor for missing that. 🙂

    • A few reasons really. It actually got #2 as best zombie game. The game that got number #1 came out in 2012, so wouldn’t even be eligible for the 2013 awards.

Even still, as an overall game, Carnival Zombie is pretty fantastic. It blends elements of euro games, dexterity and exploration. As a pure “I just want to kill zombies” game, Zombicide is just more fun.
